Regarding the lens surgery, below are the current guidelines:
The lens opacities have 4 grades/stages, 1, 2, 3, 4.
Stages 1-2: Refractive lens exchange (clear lens extraction, or Forever Young Lens surgery): This is totally elective, and insurance companies do not participate in covering at all;
Wang Vision published the world’s first major textbook dedicated to this procedure.
Stage 2-3: Cataract surgery (intermediate stage). We DO recommend the surgery at this intermediate stage. Insurance covers part of it, and for elective upgrade, it is out of pocket. Regarding who qualifies, for this intermediate-stage cataract surgery, we only recommend cataract surgery if the cataracts have indeed significantly affected patients daily function and the patients do need it.
Wang Vision performed the state’s first 3D laser cataract surgery.
Stage 3-4: Cataract surgery (late, the end stage). We do NOT recommend doing surgery at this late and end stage. This is the traditional “ripe and mature” end-stage of the disease. insurance covers part of it, and for elective upgrade, it is out of pocket.
