I have worn glasses since I was 6, and as I got older I wanted contacts. At the age of 12, my eye doctor told my parents we could try, but I would probably not be able to due to my high level of astigmatism. He fitted me into special hard lenses that I could only wear up to 8 hours a day. I wore them until approximately 3 years ago when I began to have difficulty. My eye doctor tried different types of contacts, tear duct plugs, etc, but they were too painful and irritating to keep in over 2-3 hours, 4 was a struggle, and as soon as I removed them it was such a feeling of relief. I have been faithfully wearing glasses for the past three years, and even had to wear them in my sleep as I could not read the clock when I awoke. Between two doctors of optometry and one medical doctor of ophthalmology, I was told I would never be a candidate for lASIK, and was even told technology would not be that advanced in my lifetime. Here I am today, sitting in Dr. Wang’s office, writing down my “vision life story” one day post-operative without the use of glasses or contacts. It is truly a miracle. At the age of 15, wearing my contacts, I was “aided” in passing my vision test for my driver’s permit. Without the help of that lady, I would not have received my driver’s license a year later. Needless to say, I could not drive without glasses or contacts, as my license stated. Today, Dr. Wang handed me documentation saying I no longer needed glasses or contacts. For the first time in my life, I will be able to wear “normal” sunglasses while driving, go motorcycle riding without modified glasses or sunglasses, and enjoy all the joys in life that I have not been able to due to my vision impairment. I first thank God for allowing this miracle to occur, and for me to find Dr. Wang. And secondly, I thank Dr. Wang for his great talents, technology, and what he can do. While my case may not seem extraordinary, to me it is, and the extraordinary advances he is making to those who are blind or have even more severe vision issues than I will be truly blessed by having this gentleman and physician as their surgeon and cheerleader. Thanks, Dr. Wang!
